There are many ways in which people can defend themselves against attackers. Some of these involve weapons, while others involve martial arts.
Some martial art styles are better suited for women, while others for men. And because there are so many styles to pick from, choosing can be the biggest challenge a new student faces. Now martial arts are fighting styles, in this there is no doubt. They were developed primarily to defend the student and their families from other people’s evil intentions and desires.
Curiously, all martial arts masters claim their particular fighting style is the best. The problem with most of these martial arts is that they were developed hundreds of years ago. Of course, there are new ones around, but most are from ancient times. As such, some of the styles have never changed over time to be more effective to modern day assults.
Cutting-Edge Martial Art Style
The Israelis had faced probably the worst human made disasters of all time. They’ve been invaded again and again during ancient times. The Romans finally put an end to their country and they became a nation-less people. Fast forwarding to the future, the Nazi’s came. This marked the greatest disaster ever faced by this race.
Finally, at the end of World War II, they were granted freedom to re-establish their old country, Israel. But even then, they still faced wars from their neighbors. This continuous fighting generated a need for everyday protection for Israelis, and Krav Maga was conceived.
Krav Maga is the most dangerous martial art ever created. In fact, this was actually taught to Israeli Army troops. Now consider that fact. All armies are employed in the business of war, and war kills. Armies are not in the business of making arrests. Of course, when it can it takes on and keeps prisoners, but in general, if the enemy doesn’t surrender, then it is killed.
This martial art is a non-competitive self-defense system. It is not a sport, and there’s no competition. It is a serious system. In fact, a practitioner of Krav Maga is taught to disable opponents thru hitting of various vital parts of the body. Of course, that is the usual sense in martial arts, right, to hit and disable? The only problem with this is that if the practitioner hits hard enough, the enemy is not only disabled, but is also killed or paralyzed. These techniques are taught to be controlled and used only as a last resort.
Krav Maga, in Hebrew, means contact combat and is used best in street fighting. It mixes up the concept of boxing, Muai Thai and jiu-jitsu. There are also elements of wrestling, and grappling techniques included in the setup. The master teachers of this martial art are also prime believers in realistic fights and brawls. This is a martial art that’s developed for survival through deliveries of efficient and brutal counterattack.
The creator of this martial art style was Imrich Lichtenfeld, who used his skills and training in boxing and wrestling to defend the Jewish Quarter from the fascists. When he finally immigrated to Israel, he refined the concept of the martial art and taught it to the Israel Army. Krav Maga is also taught to civilians and policemen, but with a few changes in its fighting style to suit their needs.
Philosophy of the Art
Developed for the Israeli Army, its philosophy emphasizes the need to neutralize the threat as fast as possible, to be able to move away from the situation, or to target other threats in the area. It is street-fighting at its best. Because the streets are mostly small and cramped places, Krav Maga practitioners are taught on how to use this lack of space to their advantage.
And because this martial art uses simultaneous defensive and offensive moves with no other intent but to end the threat and move on to others, this martial art can be very dangerous and deadly to its opponents.
Close combat fights are always dangerous because a person is always at a disadvantage in terms of awareness of their surroundings. The person’s attention is fixed on his opponents. But in Krav Maga, practitioners are taught to understand the psychology of street confrontation, to broaden their senses, and identify threats at a distance. They are also given training in finding escape routes and in wielding everyday items that can be found in the streets.
There are special lessons on the use of knives and sticks or what to do if the tables are turned and the enemy has the weapon, including a gun.
If in a fight, finish it as quickly as possible. This teaching is engraved on its practitioners. All students and practitioners are taught by their masters on where the vulnerable and vital points of the body are located. They are shown how an opponent can be brought down with just one strike. Of course, training is heavily controlled. The students are taught to apply and use only the reasonable amount of force.
Krav Maga is a martial art that is taught with the purpose of promoting self-defense. In fact, it is one of the few martial arts that teach their practitioners on how and when to strike first. Pre-emptive strikes are brutal, and in most cases, end the attack in seconds.
But the most dangerous concept in Krav Maga is that it is easy to learn. Humans have this instinct to fight like brawlers. Now, Krav Maga is just like brawl fighting only the movements are specific, refined and really instinctive. In fact, Krav Maga is so efficient that there’s really little to no advantage over who is bigger and who is smaller because even the smaller guy can bring down the big one. And because it is instinctive, the techniques are easy to remember. The body itself already knows the moves.
And finally, it is not like other martial arts where there are rules. Krav Maga employs moves that would ban any person from a martial arts competition. In fact, the lethality of the moves is the main reason why there are no Krav Maga competitions. But there are no rules on the street other than to survive and that is what Krav Maga teaches. It shows this art is only for survival and not for anything else.
Practitioners of Krav Maga are also taught what to do to protect others nearby, usually their family and friends. Defending ones loved ones is usually top priority over anything else. If one is still not sure about how effective this martial art is, they need only consider the training for the Special Forces. These troops are taught to strike surgically, efficiently, and quickly. This is also true with Krav Maga.
Today, Krav Maga is still being taught to and used by Israeli Defense Forces, and other law enforcement and intelligence services around the world.
